Our Food

We pride ourselves on using as much local produce as we can for our menus. The majority of our meat used is from farms in and around the Black Isle. The seafood comes straight off the local fishing boats.

Combined with a blackboard promoting all the daily specials, the Station's menu is extensive. Customers can order anything from soup and sandwiches to seafood platters and venison fillet with dauphinoise potato and a redcurrant jus. Everything on the menu is homemade, just how it should be.

We supply beef, pork and lamb to ourselves through our other business, Comfort Foods. Before it reaches the meat counter there it is locally sourced from  Dingwall Auction Mart and local farms (including Wester Balmungie and Broomhill), then sent to the abattoir in Grantown-on-Spey for slaughter. Our free range pork comes from Nairn.

Unlike the steaks you get in many restaurants, ours are guaranteed to have been hung for 28 days to give it that extra bit of flavour and tenderness.

We have reared some of our own livestock in the past, such as Tamworth Spotted Wild Boar Crosses and Western Hebridean Lambs, both of which have been used on the menu.

For venison and other game, we use Ardgay Game and Tarradale Game in Muir of Ord. Our poultry is from Nairn.

We get seafood such as Langoustines and Crabs from the Avoch and Cromarty fishing boats, and fresh fish from Eat Mair Fish in Buckie.

Local cheese for our dishes and for our cheeseboard include: Morangie Brie and Srathdon Blue, from Highland Fine Cheese, Blairliath Tain. Dunlop Cheddar, from the dairy in Ardersier. West Highland Dairy Blue and West Highland Brie which are from Plockton. Isle of Mull Cheddar from Isle of Mull dairy.

The bulk of our fruit and vegetables come from Williamsons via our shop. Whenever we can however, we try and get hold of local in-season produce. At present we are getting our strawberries, cucumbers, lettuces, turnips, garlic, potatoes and tomatoes from Ryefield, Tore. We use many of our home grown fruit and vegetables too, which include lettuces, neaps, herbs, courgettes, cabbages, corn-on-the-cob, tomatoes and strawberries.
